Lothmann Werkzeugtechnik GmbH & Co. KG is the leading expert in designing and producing custom cutting tools. Since 1980 the company designs and produces custom tools to your requirements; we concentrate on tools used for drilling, boring, fine-boring, counter boring, countersinking, back-boring and -sinking and chamfering front and rear. In our designs we concentrate on combining as many operations as possible in one operation cycle on your CNC Machining Centers. Our tools can be designed for a wide variety of materials, including the cast iron series, steel, stainless steel, tool steels and non-ferrous materials.
Lothmann fits each tool with a set of ISO cutting inserts; these world standard inserts can be replaced by the customer with the same size inserts from his favorite insert supplier. The inserts supplied are carbide, assuring high precision and reliability, as well as long tool life and reliable machining and temperature stability. Carbide obviously is superior to HSS-tools (High Speed Steel) in performance. Modern multi-layer coating is provided on carbide inserts used to machine tough, hard or abrasive materials or where requested by the customer.
To source cutting inserts Lothmann uses a variety of manufacturers and suppliers, since cutting materials and coatings undergo constant development and improvement. This assures our customers that Lothmann tools use the newest and best technology, and tools can be run at the highest cutting parameters.
CAD-CAM Process from Lothmann
Tools are produced with our special proprietary CAD-CAM process. Your requirements for special tools are stored and managed in a secure database with all important details and design parameters. All manufacturing process steps for the tools are downloaded to our CIM via our integrated software. This also includes the preparation of 2D and 3D prints and models. The data also allows for simulating and testing the tool and tool path in 3D-CAD. The tool bodies are machined on modern 4-axis MCs using CAM controls. In final inspection, the tools are completed by mounting carbide inserts and subsequently 100% inspected on fully automatic Kelch and Mapal presetter inspection machines.
