Lothmann stands for one hundred percent control and quality. The special tools are equipped with exchangeable carbide inserts which are standardised on the basis of their ISO standard. These ISO cutting edges are a cost-effective solution for you as a customer to quickly and easily obtain a tool with a new cutting edge without time-consuming regrinding.

Indexable inserts are suitable for the machining of different materials due to several cutting edges on the inserts. In addition, they always have several cutting edges available due to their symmetrical shape. Different types of inserts are used for special tools: The sintered and coated inserts are particularly suitable for machining steel and cast iron. The peripherally ground inserts with positive chip groove and the PCD (polycrystalline diamond) inserts are used for machining aluminium and non-ferrous metals.

Lothmann purchases inserts from various suppliers such as Mapal. In addition to purchasing the inserts, Lothmann also manufactures special inserts individually to customer specifications to enable grooving, turning, drilling and milling of complex contours. This special design makes it possible to produce almost any workpiece geometry with an exchangeable cutting edge.

The cutting inserts are nowadays very insensitive to cracking. This is made possible above all by sintering from ultra-fine grain. Plates for steel cutting are additionally provided with a multi-layer coating.

The layers have different consistencies so that lasting effectiveness can be achieved. The different layers also protect against rapid wear of the carbide.

Lothmann uses almost exclusively ISO inserts for its special tools. The ISO inserts are produced according to an internationally defined standardisation. This offers the advantage that the inserts can be re-ordered worldwide, independent of suppliers and at low cost.
